How has the supply chain landscape changed from the time you joined the stream? What do you think needs to change to attract talent?
The supply chain function has undergone a complete transformation over the past decade. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted its importance, bringing it to the forefront as C-suite leaders recognized the need for enhanced visibility and seamless information flow across all nodes of the value chain. No longer just a business support function, the supply chain has evolved into a key driver of business growth. With the rise of Industry 4.0 and increasing digitization, it is now attracting top talent to enhance efficiency, foster growth, and promote sustainability.
Can you walk us through your journey as supply chain professional across various industries? How was your experience in supply chain?
I have been involved in the supply chain industry for nearly two decades, starting with logistics before transitioning to rocurement, new product launches, and demand and supply planning. Eventually, I took on the responsibility of leading the entire function in one of our key regions. While my experience spans multiple industries—primarily in pharmaceuticals—I have observed that, despite industry-specific nuances, the core principles and drivers of supply chain management remain largely consistent across industries and geographies.

Over the years in supply chain management, I have gained valuable insights that make navigating today’s VUCA world both unique and challenging. Here are three key takeaways I’d like to share:

You have worked in various functions within supply chain. Which one do you see is most critical and why?
The supply chain is driven by several key factors, including procurement, inventory, logistics and distribution, IT systems, and facilities. However, in my view, the most critical element is Planning. I see it as the information cockpit of a supersonic plane—providing planners with both upstream and downstream visibility. With connections to all key value drivers, planners play a vital role in steering through complex business challenges, ensuring optimal outcomes for the organization in the shortest and most cost-effective way.
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Leading global teams across multiple geographies while successfully navigating the complexities of the supply chain to ensure the availability of critical lifesaving drugs worldwide—ultimately enabling patients to lead healthier and better lives.
What is your ultimate goal for the next five years in terms of career growth?
To be in a strategic position where I can make business decisions that drive future growth and revenue streams for the organization, leaving a lasting impact that extends beyond my tenure in the industry.
What steps can be taken to encourage young professionals to join the dynamic field of supply chain management?
The adoption of new tools and technologies in supply chain management is crucial. The industry is far from being fully automated, and we need fresh talent to leverage these advancements, enabling faster, smarter, and more efficient decision-making that fuels business growth.
What do you see as the gap between academic knowledge and real-world experience? How can this gap be bridged?
There is a need for more hands-on training and internship opportunities to help young professionals gain firsthand experience with the challenges supply chain managers face today.
How do you stay informed and updated with the latest advancements to progress in your career?
I stay updated by tracking global developments within the supply chain function, understanding business trends across different geographies, and following emerging global patterns that could indirectly impact supply chain operations.
Who is your mentor or role model in supply chain management?
I have learned from various leaders, colleagues, team members, and even younger professionals throughout my career. My guiding principle is to continuously learn, unlearn, and relearn.
Where do you see supply chain dynamics heading in the future? What key trends will shape its growth?
As supply chain management takes center stage, more Chief Supply Chain Officers (CSCOs) are now leading entire businesses. Organizations and boards are beginning to recognize that supply chain is not just about managing supplies— it’s about risk anticipation, identifying growth opportunities, driving cost efficiencies, and ensuring sustainability in operations.
